Perry seniors Janier Puente (45) and Kyle Nevitt (35) each received IHSBCA All-District honors. Both will continue their careers on the diamond for DMACC.

Perry’s Janier Puente has been named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Southwest District First Team, with fellow Bluejay senior Kyle Nevitt chosen for the Second Team.

Both will continue their playing careers at DMACC. Puente played right field primarily when not pitching, with Nevitt the usual center fielder when not on the mound, and the two teammates produced similar offensive numbers.

Puente batted .361 with 30 hits, with Nevitt hitting .357 with 30 hits. Puente had seven doubles, two triples and three home runs, scoring 23 runs and driving in 23 while Nevitt had three doubles and two home runs (one a grand slam) while driving in 20 runs and scoring 19 times.

Puente was 1-5 on the mound in 39-2/3 innings with a 4.59 ERA. He had one save, and struck out 49 while issuing 29 walks. Opposing batters hit just .197 of the hard-throwing right hander.

Southpaw Nevitt pitched 49 innings, finishing 3-7. He posted a 4.29 ERA and walked 48 while striking out 74 and allowing the opposition to hit just .129.

Perry senior Janier Puente crushed this pitch more than 370-feet down the left field line. Unfortunately the ball curled foul at the last moment.
Kyle Nevitt is congratulated by head coach Mike Long after the senior cranked a solo home run in the first inning of Perry’s 3A District 14 Semifinal against Boone July 14. The game was played at North Polk.
