A large number of Perry students and athletes will help raise funds for new floor matting in the PHS weight room when host a Lift-A-Thon Friday.
The event, which will begin at 4 p.m., will have participants perform the bench press, squat and clean lift, with the total combined weight each lifts helping raise money for the project. Some students have pledges for x-amount per pound lifted, while others have simply received pledges for a certain fixed amount. Donations are, of course, welcome.
Perry weight coach Scott Pierce said the goal was to have new matting placed across the entire floor, save for a strip down the length of the room which will field turf installed. Having the field turf in place will allow for specific drills to be conducted in the room, Pierce noted.
“Once we have this completed, and with the space we have, we are going to end up with one of the nicest weight rooms in the district,” Pierce said. “I am looking forward to seeing how every one of the students, both guys and girls, do. I am sure there will be some nice surprises.”
ThePerryNews.com will have full details on how much weight was moved, who reached the 600, 700, 800 and 900-pound clubs and if any athletes entered the 1,000-pound club early next week.
