A dozen members of the Society of Retired Experts (SORE) gathered Wednesday at the Perry Perk coffeehouse to celebrate the Aug. 15, 1943, birthday of former SORE member Dick Ehlers, who would have turned 74 this year. Dick died Nov. 24, 2015.
Treating the SORE men to coffee and sweet rolls was Shirley Ehlers, who married Dick June 3, 1967, in Ames.
Celebrating the memory of the longtime PHS chemistry teacher were SORE members Roger Emmert, Ray Harden, Andy Bambrick, Lou Hoger, Harlyn, McGuire, Jay Pattee, Ken Finer, Charlie Thompson, Jim Haas, Bob Rounds and Lawrence Bice.
Finer, Ehlers’ longtime fishing buddy, shared stories of their fishing adventures in the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota and southern Ontario.
