W-G boys golfers host Ballard, Madrid and Perry for quadrangular

WOODWARD — Ballard used the first and fourth lowest individual scores to capture the team title at the Woodward-Granger boys invite Thursday at the Woodward Golf Club.

The Bombers finished with a winning score of 330, with host W-G second at 336. Perry was third with a 345, with Madrid carding a combined 362.

Austin Ober birdied the first, third and fourth holes to help the Hawk regular post a team-best 37-42–79. He finished with four pars and four birdies in his round.

Brady Aunspach had three pars and a birdie to tally a 41-42–83 for W-G, with Nick Brummond carding a 39-46–85 on three pars and two birdies while Joe Rhodes and four pars and an eagle three on the first hole en route to a 43-46–89.

Perry was led by senior Noah Wilkening’s 41-39–80, a round which was without a birdie but which boasted par on 11 of 18 holes. Luke Rathje had six pars in a 43-42–85 round, with Connor Nielsen having four pars in his 44-44–88 trip while Tanner Duffy had three pars on his 47-45–92 card.

Ober’s 79 was the second lowest round and Wilkening’s 80 the third best, but both paled compared to the blistering one-over par 37-34–71 shot by Ballard’s Noah Hartman. Gannon Manfull had a 41-40–81, Hersch Maxey a 44-45–89 and Alex Bangs a 45-44–89 to lead the Bomber to victory.

Aaron Sperling’s 46-38–84 paced Madrid, with Jacob Meeker recording a 39-49–88. Jacob Sohrada carded a 43-48–91, with Cole Rigby notching a 45-54–99 for the Tigers, who did not tabulate the round fo 52-59–111 provided by Tyler Lawrenson.

Ballard’s 388 won the junior varsity portion of the meet, with Perry shooting a 405 and W-G a 440.

Dane McCarty (48-46–94), Brady Iben (49-52–101), Devin Patrick (58-46–104) and Gabe Ridnour (53-53–106) provided the JV scores for Perry.

The W-G JV total was generated by Max Helbling (45-45–90), Hunter Pierce (46-46–92), Nick Buch (64-51–115) and Liam Anderson (71-72–143).

The W-G boys and girls team return to action Monday when they host Des Moines Christian and Ogden for a coed invite.
