W-G track teams score well at WCV

STUART — West Central Valley hosted eight boys and seven girls track teams Thursday for the annual Wildcat Coed Invitational. Woodward-Granger finished third on the boys side and fifth in the girls competition with point totals of 100 and of 75, respectively.

The Hawk boys were first in three of the seven relay races and second in two others. Marcus McConahay, Josh Saak, Bryce Achenbach and Chandler Cavanaugh won the 4×200 in 1 minute, 40.44 seconds, with Achenbach, Cavanaugh, Ian Thompson and Austin Scharlau winning the 4×400 in 3:45.53 while Brendan Bird, Scharlau, Saak and Cavanaugh claimed the sprint medley in 1:45.27.

Bird, Cavanaugh, McConahay and Payton Tague crossed second in the 4×100 in 48.56 seconds, with Gage Lisle, Kaya Bowlsby, Saak and Scharlau second in the distance medley in 4:13.57.

Thompson, Achenbach, McConahay and Jack Grell finished the 4×800 in 9:11.42 to finish third, with Tague, Bowlsby, Nick Moser and Pacy Moats clocking a 1:15.29 in the shuttle hurdle, which placed fifth.

Thompson’s 55.22 time won the 400, with Grell sixth in the 800 in 2:21.46 while McConahay was third in the 200 (24.87) and Cavanaugh and Bird 2-5 in the 100 in 11.81 and 12.19.

Tague added points in both individual hurdle events by placing second in the 110 high (17.45) and third the 400 low (1:03.8).

Bird was fifth and Brody Easter sixth in the discus with spins of 117 feet, 11 inches and 116’6. Easter threw the shot put 35’2 to finish sixth, with Achenbach landing 17’10-1/2 from the board of fifth in the long jump.

Emma Buckman was sixth in the shot put (30’7) and discus (84’5) for the Hawk girls while Natalie Helbling flopped over the bar at 4’8 for third place in the high jump.

Emma Drake won the 800 in 2:34.57, with Anna Tague third in the 200 (28.98), Kaitlyn Peters fifth in the 1500 (5:46.53) and Savannah David sixth in the 400 (1:15.75) while Maddi Danti crossed sixth (20.15) in the 100 hurdles and David sixth (1:24.93) in the 400 low hurdles.

Drake, Tague, Josie Noland Peters combined to win both the 4×400 (4:40.78) and 4×800 (11:16.24), with Kaitlyn Bandstra, Mae Anderson, Drake and Tague second in the sprint medley (2:06) while Bandstra, Danti and both Chloe and Savannah David second in the shuttle hurdle (1:23.18).

Chloe David, Quinn Kaufman and Alyssa Bice ran with Anderson in the 4×200, placing fourth in 2:12.65, with Bice, Bandstra, Anderson and Riley Jamison fourth in the distance medley in 5:16.75. The Hawk girls also scored in the 4×100, with Kaufman, Bice and both David sisters combining to place fifth in 1:02.77.

W-G will host the Hawk Coed Relays at Uthe Track Tuesday before visiting Boone for a coed meet Thursday.
