WOODWARD — Funds were raised, fun was had and bellies were filled Saturday at the Woodward Friends N Neighbors Chili Cook-off Saturday. Held in the commons outside the Woodward-Granger Senior High gym, the event served as a promotion for the upcoming Friends N Neighbors celebration, which will be held June 2-3.
Diners had the opportunity to play bingo, with a drawing held for a RTIC cooler, which was won by Ray Fudge.
Jessica Cavanaugh claimed first place in the chili battle, with Troy Janssen placing second and Keri Baetsle third. Prize money was provided by the Woodward FFA.
The theme for the 2017 Woodward Friends N Neighbors Day will be “Family Game Night.” The Christian Church will hold a supper on Friday, June 2, with a teen dance, a movie in the park (cardboard car drive-in) and a golf cart parade (and possible a golf cart poker run) also on tap.
June 3 activities will being with a breakfast at the Woodward Social Center and with a flag raising. A parade will be held, with vendors, arm wrestling, a Taekwando demonstration and a pie auction also to be featured. The “Little Miss Woodward” pageant will be contested as will the “Cutest Baby” while the Woodward Lions will host lunch.
Family fun games — jumbo jenga, checkers, connect four, dominoes, ‘yard’ Yahtzee and sidewalk chalk — will be available, with a car show, a bags tourney and a lip sync contest to be held.
All new inflatables, including a new bounce house, bungee run, obstacle course, slide, and zorb ball racing are scheduled to be on available to entertain the youngsters.
The adult set will have a band playing and a beer garden, with everyone sure to enjoy a fireworks show later that evening.
