Woodward-Granger golfers host coed triangular

WOODWARD — Teams from Des Moines Christian and Ogden competed with host Woodward-Granger in a West Central Conference triangular at the Woodward Golf and Country Club Monday.

DMC fired a 167 to claim boys honors, with W-G tallying 177 strokes and Ogden 186. The Ogden girls used a 187 to win their side of the meet, with both DMC and W-G carding totals of 226.

Nick Brummond and Austin Ober had three pars and one birdie apiece as both provided rounds of 40 to lead the hosts. Hunter Pierce had three pars in a round of 47 for the Hawks, with Max Helbling shooting a 50. Brady Aunspach was also in action, but his 56 was not used for the team score.

Nate Jeffers had a medalist round of 38 to lead DMC, with Drew Shisler (41), Tommy Weissenburger (42) and Grant Christy (46) also scoring for the Lions. The team did not tabulate rounds of 51 from Grant Veurink or of 54 from Matt Wynne.

Ogden counted the scores of Seth Bishop (44), Jacob Hildreth (46), Jade Thompson (49) and Jacob Kathman (49). Ryan Nichols (52) and Carson Hayes (53) also played for the Bulldogs.

Ashland James fired a 52 to lead the W-G girls. Aubrey Mescher notched a 55, Cierra De Hoet a 57 and Paige Mescher a 62.

Ogden’s Hannah Carter led all girls with a 40, highlighted by an eagle 3 on the fourth hole. Kylie Nichols was second for the Bulldogs and overall with a round of 47, with Maranda Wheelock shooting 48 and Kayla Walker 52. Also on the course were Hallie Weber (55) and Faith Mohr (67).

A round of 52 from Jessie Riemenschneider paced DMC, with Cece Sturdivant adding a 56, Ashley Kimani a 57 and Caroline Dunn a 61. Neither the 63 from Claire Stromley nor the 66 from Mwihawki Njoroge were used for the Lion total.

The W-G boys will visit Perry twice in their next meets. They will compete in the 18-hole Bluejay Invitational Saturday, then return to Perry for the Witmer-Dunphy Invite Monday. The Hawk girls are off until Monday, when they play at Panora in the Panther Girls Invite.
