The PVFD ladder truck, with its ladder stretching 85 feet into the air above downtown Perry, was a central attraction at the Perry Farmers Market Public Safety Night Thursday.

Agents of public safety agencies from Perry and Dallas County gathered at this week’s Perry Farmers Market, making it probably the safest marketplace in all of America.

The Perry Public Safety Night gave visitors a chance to meet members of the Perry Police Department, Perry Fire Department and Dallas County EMS and check out their various emergency vehicles. Youngsters in particular were fascinated by the PVFD ladder truck, with its ladder stretching 85 feet into the air above downtown Perry.

The odor of grilled meats, courtesy of the Perry Firefighters Association, mingled with many other tempting scents in Josh Davis Memorial Plaza and along Second Street between Willis Avenue and Warford Street.

Perry Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lynsi Pasutti expressed her gratitude to all the people who helped make the Public Safety Night a success.

“Thank you to the Perry Iowa Police Department,” Pasutti said, “the Dallas County EMS Professionals IAFF Local 4127 and especially to the Perry Fire Department for bringing out their vehicles, providing a grill out and the option for an aerial shot — thanks to Brian Eiteman and Matt McDevitt!”

Pasutti also thanked downtown businesses that sponsored the face painting and other kids activities, and she thanked the loyal vendors who vend their wares weekly and the customers who bring them their weekly custom.

“We have a great group of market vendors that join us each week,” she said, “so thank you for coming out and shopping for their items. Join us each week — except July Fourth — for the 2019 Perry Farmers’ Market season and look forward to a special event on the third Thursday of the month!”

Thanks to the steady increase in vendors at the Perry Farmers Market, Second Street will now be closed every Thursday evening through September between Warford Street and the alley at the Josh Davis Memorial Plaza. The half-block stretch of Second Street will close about 2:30 p.m. and reopen at 7 p.m. each week to accommodate the Perry Farmers Market expansion.

Free parking will be available at the Perry Public Library, Caboose Park and the city parking lot on the northeast corner of First Avenue and Warford Street.
