Many public and private Independence Day celebrations are planned for July 4 in the Perry area and throughout Dallas County.

Perry Fine Arts will host its annual Independence Day Musical Extravaganza and Ice Cream Social Monday, July 4 at 2 p.m. in the centrum of the First United Methodist Church, 1100 Third St. in Perry.

This year’s musical guest will be pianist and comedian Brian Hanson. For an idea of Hanson’s music, think of Roger Williams meeting Victor Borge. He will entertain you with a program of patriotic golden oldies and comedy.

“Over the years, Hanson has honed his artistic abilities with countless performances, several successful recordings, original compositions and movie soundtrack scores,” said Cathy Clark, Perry Fine Arts spokesperson. “Through television and the internet, his music has literally been played around the world.”

Hanson lives in Franklin, Tenn., but is an Iowa native, originally growing up in Oskaloosa.

Following the performance, visitors are welcome to move to the Fellowship Room for a bowl or two of homemade ice cream and other goodies in celebration of the Fourth of July.

Perry Fine Arts concerts are free and open to the public. Free will donations are accepted. The First United Methodist Church is air conditioned and accessible to wheelchairs.

Musical comic Brian Hanson will perform in concert Monday, July 4 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry.
