As Gomer Pyle often said, “Sunrise! Surprise! Surprise!” I thought the season of church suppers was over, but to my surprise it wasn’t. The Lord works in mysterious ways, as I often say to my friend and fellow diner Dan Haymond.
While attending the Bouton Betterment Committee breakfast last Saturday, I learned from Bouton breakfast eater Gale Phillips that the Emmanuel United Methodist Men in Granger were hosting a chicken and noodle dinner the very next day at the church, which is located at 1910 Locust St. in Granger.
“Shazam!” as Gomer Pyle also used to say.
Now Granger is a little father than I like to drive in inclement weather, which the weekend snowfall counted as, but chicken and noodles were worth the risk.
The homemade chicken and noodles were served alongside real mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet coleslaw, beverage and homemade apple crisp. The apple crisp was made from apples grown by one of the Granger United Methodist Men.
The crowd was pretty small when I got the the fundraising dinner, but it slowly increased while I was there.
Funds raised will be used for three purposes. One purpose is to help to cover cost of children attending church camp, and a second was help cover cost of adults attending Lay Ministry courses. The free-will donations will also be used to support the church’s mission work.
