Area hoop shooters competed Saturday afternoon in the annual Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest at the Perry Middle School gymnasium.
There were six separate groups, one each for boys and girls ages 8-9 years old, 10-11 years old and 12-13 years old.
Kalley Whelchel, 8, took the trophy in the girls 8-9 category, and her sister, Karagyn Whelchel, 10, won the girls 10-11 competition. A tie between shooters in the girls 12-13 will be broken by a shoot off Sunday.
Winners in the boys hoop shoot were Chase Davis, 9, in the 8-9 category, Drake Levan, 11, in the 10-11 age group and Kaelan Davis, 12, in the 12-13.
The local winners will advance to the district contest in Jefferson.
The first 50 youngsters registered received a complimentary basketball courtesy of the Perry Elks Lodge 407. Students from the Perry, ADM, Guthrie Center, Panorama and Woodward-Granger school districts were eligible.
