The Perry Pathfinders 4-H Club, newly formed in January, took on its first community-service project Saturday afternoon when members gathered to tend the flower beds at the Josh Davis Memorial Garden at the Perry High School.

Perry Pathfinders leader Kendra Woehl said the landscaping project was coordinated with leaders of the Josh Davis Memorial Poker Run, scheduled this year for Aug. 11.

U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Josh Davis of Perry was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010. Davis was a 2009 graduate of Perry High School. He was 19 when killed.

The new 4-H club currently has seven members, with two more in the pipeline, Woehl said. She is assisted in directing the club by volunteers Rebecca Boden and Nikki Nelsen.

Woehly said the Pathfinders have also started an oral-history project at the Perry Lutheran home, wih the aim of creating a memory book.

“But that’s still a work in progress,” she said. “The Josh Davis Memorial Garden is the first project we have fully committed to.”

The Perry Pathfinders can be seen on parade Saturday, June 9 in the Woodward Friends and Neighbors Day Parade. The parade starts at 10 a.m.

“Hopefully, you’ll be hearing a lot more from us,” Woehl said. “I have a great group and hope to increase enrollment next year.”
