Eight members of the Perry Optimist Club overcame sweltering game-time temperatures at Principal Park in Des Moines Friday night in order to sell beer and hot dogs to I-Cubs fans.

Pulling the taps and slinging the dogs and nachos were Optimists Lisa Widick, Andrea Brownlee, Dr. Randy McCaulley, Marsha McCaulley, Clark Wicks, Linda Andorf and honorary Optimist and Perry Lions Club member John Andorf.

“Our optimistic views on life were tested,” said Menke, “by the heat and lack of airflow in the stand, the long hours and not having Chick-Fil-A sandwiches to sell to hungry customers. In the end, we prevailed!”

The club raised several hundred dollars worth of commission sales to which they will add $37.75 in hard-earned tips. All Optimist Club fundraising supports its programs for kids.
