Jan and Jay Pattee were one of four generations playing at the Soumas Court in downtown Perry Friday night. Delivering folk music standards to an overflow crowd, the Pattees were joined for several numbers by their son Phillip, while his daughter literally played at their feet and Jan’s father, Chick Schwarzkopf, delighted old friends with his playful humor.
With temperatures in the low 70s and fine food and drinks served from the mobile food truck of the Hotel Pattee, the evening was a pleasant lead into the Independence Day weekend.
Independence Day events start at 10 a.m. Saturday with a parade, followed by a busy slate of musical events, food vendors and children’s activities in Pattee Park and an ice cream social and concert at the First United Methodist Church in Perry.
The day culminates in a fireworks display around 9 p.m.
