The Minburn Volunteer Fire Department held their 20th annual Minburn Emergency Rescue Team (MERT) fundraiser at the Minburn Methodist Church Saturday.
At this midday event the local community could enjoy a free soup dinner made by the local firefighters. In return, they could donate money to the local fire department if they felt generous but were not required to do so.
The Minburn firefighting department holds various fundraisers throughout the year in order to help keep their facility and training up to date.
“This is an annual fundraiser to help raise money for equipment and training for the first responder group,” said Minburn volunteer firefighter Dan Case, one of the event’s organizers. “This has been held for 20 years, and it’s also a way for us to give back to the community by giving them a free meal. All food is homemade from scratch.”
Case said the soup-and-dessert lunch “is one of the larger fundraisers we hold each year.”
