Academic honors pile up for Perry students

The Perry cheerleaders sparkled in the classroom as well as on the sidelines this season.

Raccoon River Conference All-Academic honors have been collected by numerous Perry swimmers, volleyball players and cheerleaders, with all three units earning IGHSAU Distinguished Academic Team Awards. The latter honor belongs to any team or group posting a cumulative GPA of 3.25-4.0.

Requirements to receive individual honors include being in grades 10-12, earning a letter, and producing a GPA of at least 3.25). Swimmers recognized were Anna Ridnour, Avery Miner, Sarah Vaughn and Dannah Karolus.

Mackenzie Ayers, Jenisis Cerna, Stephanie Garcia, Ainsley Marburger, Jasmin Olmos, Magley Orellana, Mary Ann Riesberg, Jasmine Shriver and Quinn Whiton were the Jayette volleyballers honored.

Perry’s cheerleading squad had 10 members earn academic distinction. Savanna Benton, Delaney Eiteman, Rylynn Gilmore, Sydney Helmers, Carly Herrera, Fatima Hurtado, Avery Miner, Odaly Perla, Jamileth Sarceno and Cindy Troung were those named.

Jean Dowd and Melanie Kuntz coach the Jayette swimmers, John Fulton the volleyball team and Kim Herrera and Bobbie Barto the cheer squad.
