Ames police seek person of interest in homicide investigation

A warrant was issued Monday for the arrest of Richard G. Fleck, also known as Rashaud Sims, 33, for the first-degree murder of

AMES, Iowa — The Ames Police Department is seeking a person of interest in a homicide investigation, according to a statement released Sunday by the agency.

Richard G. Fleck, also known as Rashaud Sims, 33, is believed to currently be in the Kansas City, Missouri, area, but he also has ties in Texas and in Mississippi, according to police.

Fleck is 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. Fleck, a black male with brown eyes and black hair, has tattoos on his neck and hands. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Fleck is asked to call 911 or contact local law enforcement.

Law enforcement wishes to interview Fleck as part of a homicide investigation that began Saturday night. According to the Ames Police Department, a welfare check about 7 p.m. Saturday at 407 S Fifth St. led to the discovery of the lifeless body of a woman.

After processing the scene, investigators believed the female was a victim of homicide. The name of the victim is withheld pending notification of the family.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the investigation, according to police.
