The PHS Drama Department raided the costume wardrobe for a vintage clothing sale Saturday at the Performing Arts Center auditorium.
Apparel from head to foot was available, from formal gowns used in prior productions to Bluejay wear of different eras.
All proceeds support the staging of the spring production, “Anything Goes,” a 1934 musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The perennially popular production debuted during the depths of the Great Depression in the same year that saw the deaths of American gangsters John Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde. Porter’s lyrics reflect the fashionable nihilism of the era before the rise of fascism:
The world has gone mad today
And good’s bad today,
And black’s white today,
And day’s night today,
And that gent today
You gave a cent today
Once had several chateaux.
And good’s bad today,
And black’s white today,
And day’s night today,
And that gent today
You gave a cent today
Once had several chateaux.
