September’s Assisted Living Week at the Perry Lutheran Home campuses held a variety of activities and presentations for interested residents.

The week opened with a Monday talk at the Spring Valley Campus by local historian Larry Vodenik on Perry’s buildings through the years.

Another local Dallas County historian, Rod Stanley, spoke Tuesday at Spring Valley Campus on the story of Bonnie and Clyde and the Barrow gang’s trail through the county.

Wednesday brought Dallas County Conservation Department Coordinator of Historical and Cultural Resources Pete Malmberg to the Perry Lutheran Home Main Campus for an interactive encounter with reptiles of Dallas County.

Local naturalist and accomplished wildlife photographer Ray Harden gave a talk at the Spring Valley Campus Thursday on the life and times of common birds in Dallas County.

Perennial favorites, the Al Welsh Orchestra, performed their trademark mix of post-war dance music at the Spring Valley Campus on Friday.

“It was a fun week,” said Maureen Haglund, marketing director for the Perry Lutheran Home.

The fun continued this week when the Perry High School Jayette volleyball team visited the Spring Valley Campus during Wednesday’s Volunteer Day. The young netters demonstrated their on-court moves for attendees and even led a brief balloon volleyball game among residents.
