The simplest measure is a look at the win-loss record, but Perry boys head basketball coach Aaron Lyons knows there are many ways to evaluate a team.

Perry is 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play at the holiday break, and while the team is a horrific 42-of-95 (44.2 percent) at the foul line and has connected on less than 36 percent of all shots from the floor, their 42.5 points per game average is a considerable improvement over last season.

The Bluejays have drained 23-of-63 (36.5 percent) of their 3-point attempts, are averaging 31.7 rebounds per outing and have made 54 steals. While 15.7 turnovers per game is too high, it is a much lower rate from a year ago, further testament to steady improvement.

Brendan Ivory leads the team at 23 points per game. He is shooting 10-of-25 (40 percent) on 3-pointers and 18-of-30 (60 percent) at the foul line while making 10 steals and providing 10 assists.

Keghan West posts averages of 7.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while blocking 11 shots, with Kato Dougan scoring 4.8 points per contest.

June Rey Reisberg has hit 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) behind the arc and is averaging 6.5 points per game. Jordan Long, Chase Archer and Sincere Johnson are all adding at least two points per date.

Perry returns to action Jan. 7 at Winterset before hosting Ballard Jan. 10. The Jays will host Madrid for a boys-only junior varsity/varsity matinee Jan. 11.
