Perry's Noah Wilkening rolls a birdie putt toward the cup on the sixth green at the Perry Golf and Country Club last season. The Bluejay senior fired a 38 to pace the hosts in their season opener Tuesday.

Visiting Ballard had two golfers finish with rounds in the 30s, but Perry emerged with a 177-179 victory Tuesday thanks to a series of consistent scores in the middle of their lineup.

Noah Wilkening had four pars and a birdie to finish with a two-over par 38 to lead Perry at the Perry Golf and Country Club. Conner Nielsen’s 45 (one par, one birdie) was second for the Bluejays, with Dane McCarty (one par) and Tanner Duffy (one par, one birdie) each recording rounds of 47. Cards of 48 from Luke Rathje and of 59 from Brady Iben were not used for the Perry team total.

Noah Hartman had a 38 and Gannen Manfull a 39 to pace Ballard. Alex Banghs had a 49 and Robert Klunder a 53 to also score for the visitors, with Jake Baumhover (56) and Tyler Ihle (60) not having their scores used.

Ballard scored a decisive 205-305 win over a very inexperienced Perry junior varsity squad. Gabe Ridnour shot a 59 for the Bluejay JV, with Devi Patrick (71), Kade Kilmer (72) and Emilio Gonzalez (103) also on the course.

Perry next action will be Thursday when they join Des Moines Christian for a triangular at Greene County.
