Perry head coach Jason Olejniczak (second from left) and assistant coaches Jim Richmond (left) and Shannon Cline (middle) address the Perry defense during a timeout against Greene County Oct. 9. Six members of the Bluejay defense recently earned All-District honors in Class 3A District 2, with one Jay named for his offensive output.

Seven members of the Perry football team were named to the Class 3A District 2 All-District teams recently.

Perry was winless (0-9, 9-6) in 2015, but that did not stop district coaches from noticing the fine play this season of six Bluejays who were honored for their play on defense while another senior received a nod on offense.

Senior Joe Olvera (52.5 tackles, three tackles for loss) was one of four defensive linemen chosen for the First Team, with senior Solomon Pierce (50.5 tackles, eight for a loss) one of three defensive ends named to the First Team.

Four seniors were named to the Honorable Mention list: linebacker Eli Saemisch (43 tackles, eight for loss), defensive back Kade VanKirk (38 tackles, one interception), defensive back Jacob Thompson (tackles n/a, interception returned 65 yards for a touchdown against Carroll) and defensive linemen Alonzo Zarate (tackles n/a).

Senior receiver Taviar Lucas was named to the First Team offense. He entered the final week of the season fifth in receptions with 41 and ended the year with 332 yards and three touchdowns on 45 catches. He had 180 rushing yards and one score on 44 carries as well.

Lucas was inadvertently unmentioned in the original post of this story. ThePerryNews.com regrets the oversight.
