Perry soccer standout Alvaro Soto declared his intention to attend Grand View College and continue his career on the pitch for head coach Blair Reid’s Vikings.

Grand View, a NAIA school, was 17-7-1 last season, winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference and advancing as far as the national quarterfinals.

Soto had one goal and three assists for Perry last year. He has scored five goals and assisted on seven others as a Bluejay. Perry is a combined 47-12 the past three years, with the Jays the state runner-up when Soto was a freshman and a state quarterfinalist his junior year. The team fell in the substate final last year, and has won the Raccoon River Conference title outright each of the past two seasons.

“I am proud of all he has accomplished,” Perry head coach Gary Overla said. “Alvaro has a tremendous work ethic and will be a good fit there (Grand View). He is a good player and a good student as well.”

Perry’s Alvaro Soto turns a defender as he attacks the Winterset goal in a game last season. Soto signed today to continue his soccer career with Grand View College.
