HUXLEY — The Perry wrestling team recorded a narrow win over Greene County while suffering decisive setbacks to both Humboldt and host Ballard in quadrangular action Thursday.

Both teams left the 113 pound division open, with Greene County receiving 12 points from Perry forfeits at 195 and 220, but the Bluejays were still able to prevail, claiming a 34-32 win. Humboldt was plus-12 on forfeits against Perry, though the final 53-24 margin meant the surrendered points played little role in the eventual outcome. Ballard scored a 51-25 win over Perry, with 24 Bomber points coming from forfeits while Perry received no points from open weights in the dual.

Second-ranked Zach Stewart was 3-0 at 138 pounds for Perry and had the biggest win of the entire meet when he defeated 2A No. 2 Jarrett Miller of Ballard, 3-2. Stewart (46-4) won his other two matches by pin.

Kaleb Olejniczak (41-5), rated fifth at 126, also finished with a 3-0 mark. The junior won twice with pins and once with a technical fall.

Fourth-ranked 120-pounder Zachary Thompson (36-4) was 3-0 as well. He received one forfeit, won once by technical fall and once with a pin.

Justin Stammer collected a pair of victories for Perry at 145 pounds, claiming wins by both pin and major decision while Jeb Stewart was 1-1 at 132 with a pin. Jacob Nelson wrestled once at 132 but did not win his match.

Bryan Funez (152 pounds) and Erick Funez (160) were both 1-1, with each winning once by decision. Perry left one 152-pound match open, with Daniel Brinton losing once at 160 but winning once at 170 with a pin.

Riece Graham was 1-2 with a win by pin at 106, with Franciso Colon (170), Cesar Ramirez (182) and Alexander Tapia (220) finishing winless in their matches.

Perry will return to Ballard Saturday when they compete in the Raccoon River Conference tournament. Wrestling will begin at 10 a.m.
