HUXLEY — A trio of first-half goals proved more than enough for visiting Perry Tuesday, as the Bluejays went on to post a 4-1 Raccoon River Conference victory over Ballard.
Sophomore Corey Alamina scored twice for Perry (6-5, 4-1), with sophomore Ever Tobar and senior German Alvarenga also finding the back of the net. Senior Bryan Catalan and sophomore Tomas Lopez each provided an assist.
A switch to a new-look formation proved more beneficial than not, Perry head coach Gary Overla said.
“We played a 3-4-3 in the first half and that seemed to work pretty well, but not so well in the second half,” the coach stated. “Our fitness level isn’t at the proper level for that formation.”
Perry resumes action Saturday in a four-team tourney at Dewey Field. The hosts will play Southeast Polk at 9 a.m. with Norwalk facing off against Lewis Central at 10:30 a.m. The consolation game will be played at 12 p.m. with the championship match to begin at approximately 1:30 p.m.
