Bluejays compete at Harlan tournament

HARLAN, Iowa — The Perry wrestlers were in action Saturday at the Dan Hill Invitational, finishing seventh in the 10-team field.

Winterset won the team chase with 231 points, with Logan-Magnolia second at 207 and Glenwood third at 178. Perry totaled 86.5 points despite not competing at 106, 113, 120, 126, 132 and 195 pounds.

Cole Nelson won the 138-pound bracket with a 22-6 technical fall in 2 minutes, 43 seconds and with a 3-0 decision over Sean Thompson of Logan-Magnolia, who is rated ninth in 1A at 138. Nelson is eight in 2A at 120 in the opening rankings.

Alex Fickbohm was 2-2 with a pair of pins in placing fourth at 145, with Alan Gomez 2-2 with two pins in finishing fourth at heavyweight.

Kain Killmer used a pin and a 17-4 major decision to secure fifth place at 170, with Keegan Snyder fifth at 182 with a pin and a 13-7 decision while Tanner Burgin was 1-3 and sixth overall at 152.

Jose Chavez competed at 160 for the Bluejays but was unable to record a victory in his two matches.

Perry joins Colfax-Mingo and Woodward-Granger in Ogden tonight (Dec. 7) before making the long drive Saturday to the Aplington-Parkersburg Invitational.
