Perry's Rudy Sarceno (1) works to stop a DC-G attack. The Bluejay senior had one goal and three assists Thursday.

Perry defended Dewey Field from Carroll Thursday, scoring an 8-0 win in Raccoon River Conference boys soccer to stop a three-game skid.

Junior Ever Tobar and sophomore Mario Saldana each scored hat tricks with three goals apiece, with seniors Rudy Sarceno and Jonathon Castro also finding the back of the net. Sarceno assisted on three goals, with Castro, Saldana and Tobar recording one assist apiece.

Perry improved to 9-4 overall and claimed a share of the RRC title at 6-1 while Carroll fell to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Sixth-ranked Perry will host a Class 2A Substate 8 semifinal May 22, with the Bluejays facing the winner of a Lewis Central (10-3) vs. Carroll (6-9) match. Denison-Schleswig (10-4), ranked 12th, awaits the winner of Harlan (10-6) vs. Glenwood (6-8) in the other first round battle. First round and semifinal matches begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Substate Final — if Perry wins May 22 — will be played on Dewey Field at 12 p.m. May 25, with the victor advancing to the state tournament.
