Bluejays stripe Tigers to collect first win of season

Senior Alex Long earned the win on the bump Wednesday as Perry thumped Carroll, 15-4, in five innings at Progressive Field.

Perry erupted for 15 runs on 10 hits to defeat Carroll, 15-4, in five innings of Raccoon River Conference baseball at Progressive Field Wednesday.

The Bluejays (1-4, 1-0) received a strong pitching effort from Alex Long (1-2), who yielded only one hit in collecting the win. Long walked four batters and struck out five, with a pair of Perry errors helping Carroll (0-3, 0-2) score four times in the top of the fourth.

Kade VanKirk cleaned up on the mound, walking one and striking out two in an inning of relief.

Janier Puente had a two-run home run and drove in three runs to help power the offense. Adan Medina was on base at every at-bat with Kyle Nevitt hitting a two-run double, scoring twice and driving in three runs.

Perry hosts Boone Thursday, visits ADM Friday and will play in the Nodaway Valley tournament Saturday.
