HUXLEY — Ballard capitalized on a pair of costly Perry errors to score a total of five unearned runs while dodging seven Perry hits in claiming an 8-0 win in Raccoon River Conference softball Thursday.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]
The Bombers (6-6, 3-1) scored once in the first inning, then opened a 5-0 gap with four tallies in the second. The hosts plated single runs in frames 4-5-6 to pull away for the shutout victory.
Alyssa Kruger suffered the loss for Perry (2-7, 0-4). She allowed eight runs (three earned) on 10 hits while walking three batters and hitting one. The senior finished with four strikeouts.
Jo Diw had two singles, a double and a stolen base to spark the Jayette offense, which received a pair of base hits from Jayna Kenney. Sid Vancil and Peyton Tunink each provided a single, with Grace Stewart drawing a walk and stealing a base.
Perry plays host Woodward-Granger today at 10 a.m. in the first game of the two-day W-G Classic. The Jayettes will remain in their dugout to face Madrid in the 12 p.m. game on diamond 1.
