Boone blanks visiting Perry in conference baseball

BOONE — The Perry baseball team was limited to three hits and only four base runners Thursday in a 10-0 loss to host Boone in five innings of Raccoon River Conference action.

Caden Steva, Keghan West and Avery Meister all had singles for Perry (0-6, 0-4), with Juan Hernandez reaching on an error to account for the Bluejay offense.

Boone (6-1, 2-1) had seven hits in the game and received eight walks while twice having batters hit by a pitch. The hosts scored twice in the first inning and once each in the following three frames to open a 5-0 lead. Five runs in the bottom of the fifth ended the game via the mercy rule.

Freshman Beato Fausto started and went four innings on the rubber for Perry. He allowed three hits and six walks while striking out four, with two of the five runs he allowed earned.

Carter Iben yielded five runs (three earned) on three hits, a walk and a hit batsman in relief. Steva entered and through one frame, allowing one hit, one walk and one hit batter while fanning one.

Matthew Mills struck out seven while holding Perry to three hits in collecting the win on the hill. He aided his own cause with a single and a double.

Ryan Hulse had a single and a double for the home team, with Morgan Smith stroking a home run.

Perry hosts Ogden tonight and Carlisle Monday, with a visit to Bondurant-Farrar on tap for Wednesday before Ballard visits Progressive Field Thursday.
