Bluejays fall to Ogden in first game of new football sesaon.

Ogden made their short trip south worth the effort Friday by posting a 33-0 non-district win over Perry in the football season opener for both.

Bulldog quarterback Lane Snedden accounted for most of the damage, rushing for 83 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries while tossing one scoring pass while amassing 294 aerial yards on an 18-of-30 effort. He was intercepted twice.

Perry struggled to move the ball offensively save for a first quarter drive that started on their own 1-yard line and moved to the Ogden nine-yard line before ending with a turnover.

Despite finding the sledding difficult at times, Perry head coach Bryce Pierce said he found areas in which he could be positive.

“Consistency is the name of the game right now,” he said. “We showed glimpses of what we are capable of, now we need to do it more often.”

While Perry was shut out, the second-year head coach said he and his staff felt better about the team effort and the possibilities for success shown on the grid than after any of the nine games last season.

“Our boys are building some confidence in what they can do,” Pierce said. “They are starting to believe they have the ability, too. They are excited about what is to come.”

Snedden scored on a one-yard run in the opening frame, with a Matthew Samuelson PAT boot putting the score at 7-0.

A 55-yard scoring pass to Jack Christensen and a two-yard Kaden Morman plunge moved the halftime score to 19-0.

Snedden completed the scoring with short scoring runs in each of the final two frames.

Morman added 99 yards on 19 carries, with Christensen catching five passes for 100 yards, Cael Pearson six balls for 70 yards and Hunter Meeks two passes for 66 yards to lead the way.

Caden Heck was 4-of-13 for 77 yards passing for Perry while being picked off once. He connected with Abe Ruiz three times for 71 yards and once with Holden Smith for six yards.

Jeremiah Cregeen ran the ball 14 times for 33 yards, Omar Jaimes three times for nine yards and Juan Hernandez three times for three yards for Perry. Christian Garrido lost three yards on two hauls while Heck carried nine times for a loss of 12 yards, those coming on sacks.

Gavin Hegstrom paced the Bluejay defense with 5.5 tackles and a sack, with Ruiz making five stops and intercepting a pass he returned 25 yards. Cayden Widen had two stops and returned an interception 35 yards while Garrido blocked a kick. Hernandez added five tackles to aid the defensive cause.

Perry travels to Greene County (0-1) for the Cowbell Game at 7 p.m. Friday while Ogden will host Wayne.
