W-G's Cole Theisen showed a good understanding of the strike zone by drawing four walks against Centerville Saturday. He was 3-for-4 with a RBI in Monday's loss to Earlham.

GRANGER — A four-run third inning proved to be enough for visiting Earlham Monday as the Cardinals slipped past Woodward-Granger, 6-3, in their West Central Conference contest.

Earlham (2-5, 2-3) received a complete game off the bump from Canyon Hopkins, who allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. Two W-G runs were  unearned.

Brady Aunspach suffered the loss for W-G (2-4, 1-2) after being touched for four runs on three hits and three walks in 2.2 innings of work, during which he struck out three. Matt Buch went the rest of the way, yielding two unearned runs on three hits and a walk while retiring four batters on strikes.

Cole Theisen was 3-for-4 with a RBI for the Hawks, with Aunspach driving in two runs on a double while Jackson Larson, Jordan Pierce and Buch added singles. Buch, Race Brant and Marcus McConahay each scored for the hosts.

W-G played two games at Guthrie Center Tuesday, but no report had been received at publication time. The Hawks will play a twinbill at Woodward Academy Thursday before visiting Des Moines North Friday. The first of Thursday’s two varsity contests is slated to start at 5 p.m.
