Perry girls golf coach Joel Happel summed up Monday’s Raccoon River Conference dual meet at the Perry Golf and Country Club succinctly: “Wind and Carroll both beat Perry tonight.”

The Tigers, seemingly immune to the cold temperatures and gusty winds, fired a very credible 189 while the young Jayette squad struggled with the elements and checked in with a 266.

“Carroll really showed their experience,” Happel said. “They shot one of their best scores of the year even though the conditions were very tough. Their experience helped.”

Senior Laurann Perry led the hosts with a round of 61, with freshman Hannah Roberts shooting a 65 while sophomore Sarah Sweet and frosh Skylar Cunningham both posted scores of 70. The team did not tabulate the card of 76 provided by freshman Caley Hager.

Tyra Tryon’s 45 led Carroll, with teammate Jill Pettitt adding a 47 while Haley Hoffman shot a 48 and Sara Sweeney a 49. The Tigers discarded rounds of 55 from Breanna Quandt and of 66 from Somer Sinnard.

The Jayettes are off until April 27 when they join the Bluejays golfers for the annual Witmer-Dunphy Co-ed Invitational.
