Carroll keeps Perry baseball searching for first win

Visiting Carroll scored in six of seven innings Wednesday en route to a 10-1 win over Perry in Raccoon River Conference baseball.

Carroll (6-8, 1-5) scored twice in the first, once in the second and twice again in the third innings to open a 5-1 lead.

Perry (0-13, 0-8) scored their lone run in the first. Kaleb Olejniczak singled, stole second base and scored when Conner Kenyon hit a two-out double.

Olejniczak would single later in the game, with Keghan West, Alex Morales and Quinn Helmers adding base hits to account for the Bluejay offense.

Jack Troutman hit a solo home run and a single for the Tigers, with Slade Sibenaller adding a double and two singles while Ryan Johnston provided a double. The Tigers succeeded in stealing nine bases in the win.

Avery Meister started for Perry and pitched four innings. He allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits, three walks and a hit batsman. Olejniczak threw 1-2/3 frames, yielding three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks, with Justin Stammer hurling 1-1/3 innings. Stammer allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and three walks while striking out two, with Meister and Olejniczak each having four strikeouts on their pitching stats.

Devin Baack threw 5-1/3 frames for Carroll. He yielded a run on five hits while striking out five. Alex Loew struck out three and walked one in 1-2/3 frames of relief.

Perry hosts Boone tonight at Progressive Field, with the junior varsity game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
