CARROLL — It is perhaps fortunate for the Perry basketball teams that both will be action at 1 p.m. today, less than 18 hours from the conclusion of a pair of Friday night games it would likely be best to quickly forget.

Des Moines Christian visits Perry this afternoon, and the Jayettes and Bluejays will, no doubt, be hoping they can stand up to the Lions better than they did the Tigers.

Carroll raced to a 49-16 halftime lead to win the girls meeting, 66-28, they displayed complete domination in demolishing an inexperienced Bluejay team, 84-15, in the second game.

The Tigers (2-0, 1-0) wasted little time in seizing control of the girls outing, the first Raccoon River Conference action for either team from either school. A 27-9 lead after eight minutes became 49-16 after 16 minutes of play and a 60-19 deficit after 24 minutes.

Eleven different players scored for the hosts, with Ella Collison leading the way with 13 points while Kennedy Lein added 10. Laura Sweeney tallied nine points, with Rachel White sinking three 3-pointers to also score nine points.

The Tigers were 13-of-20 at the free throw line, all of which came in the first half. Perry finished 7-of-14 at the strip.

Molly Lutmer paced Perry (1-3, 0-1) with 28 points, including each of the 12 Jayette points after the intermission. She had two 3-pointers and was 6-of-6 at the charity stripe.

Ainsley Marbuger sank a triple for provide three points, with Kennedy Tunink and Quinn Whiton each adding two points while Peyton Tunink had one.

The boys game was over almost as soon as it began, with Carroll opening a 25-3 lead, a gulf that widened to 55-10 at the break.

Muhammed Abdelnabi scored just before third quarter horn for Perry’s only points of the frame, then added three points in the fourth frame, his five points all the Bluejays would score in the second half under a continuous clock.

Abdelnabi had five points, Jordan Long and Keghan West four each and Carlos Calderon and Kato Dougan one apiece. Perry (0-2, 0-1) was 7-of-8 at the line and had only four field goals in the loss.

Carroll (3-0, 1-0) finished 7-of-10 at the foul line and made 10 3-pointers with 10 Tigers entering the score book.

Colby Vincent had a game-high 16 points, Jang Jioklow had 15 points Karter Lein 14 and Colby Christensen 10. Lein had four treys and Christiansen three.

Perry will play another non-conference set Tuesday when they host DC-G, then return to RRC action with a trip to Carlisle Friday.
