Chargers claim pair of WCAC games on Hawk hardwood

WOODWARD, Iowa — Visiting AC/GC were 54-49 winners Tuesday over Woodward-Granger in WCAC basketball, with the Chargers claiming a 42-32 win over the host Hawks in the boys contest.

W-G (4-7, 3-5) held a 13-8 lead after eight minutes of action in the opener, with the home team leading, 28-22, at halftime.

AC/GC (7-5, 5-3) used an 18-8 edge in the third frame to surge into a 40-36 lead, then held off the Hawks down the stretch to claim the win.

Grace Deputy led W-G with 15 points, with Libby Grell adding nine points and Lexi Bogardus seven. Rian Jamison tallied six points, Darby Nixon five, Kenzie Dresback four and Georgia Simmons three.

Deputy finished with 16 rebound and Nixon with seven assists. Bogardus made two 3-point baskets, with Simmons, Grell and Nixon also making shots beyond the arc.

W-G (1-8, 0-7) was well within striking range at the intermission, trailing AC/GC (8-3, 6-2) only 18-15. The Chargers widened the gap to 32-21 after three periods of play, with the Hawks unable to close the margin in the remaining frame.

Brody Nardini finished with 13 points to lead W-G. Carter Moran had eight points, Josh Hultman four and Collin Nardini three, with Don David and Dane Polich each adding two points.

Each of the Nardini brothers hit one 3-pointer for the hosts.

W-G hosts Coon Rapids-Bayard tonight and is scheduled, weather permitting, to entertain Interstate-35 Friday. W-G visits Greene County Monday, hosts Madrid Tuesday and then travels to Ogden Jan. 21.
