WOODWARD — Winless AC/GC outscored Woodward-Granger, 10-1, in a decisive third quarter to claim a 37-31 win WCAC girls basketball Friday.

The win was the first of the season for AC/GC (1-10, 1-7) while the loss drops W-G to 2-10 overall and 0-8 in league play.

The host Hawks held a 10-5 lead after one quarter, only to see the Chargers knot the score at 20-all at the intermission. The third frame ended with W-G looking at a 30-21 deficit, a gap the hosts were unable to overcome in suffering the loss.

W-G sank 6-of-13 free throws and AC/GC just 2-of-9, but the Chargers did enough work rebounding to secure to help secure the win.

Jadeyn Carriack led all scorers with 17 points for the guests, with Olivia Laabs and Lauryn Embleton scoring six points apiece.

Kayley Dresback’s nine points paced W-G, with Lisa Pitman adding seven points and Alyssa Bice five. The Hawks received four points from both Natalie Helbling and Mae Anderson, with Katelyn Scharlau adding two points.

W-G hosts West Central Valley Tuesday and Des Moines Christian Friday.
