Charles “Charlie” Emory Clark was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Charles “C. B.” and Josephine (Cooper) Clark. He passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa.

Family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 14 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry. A luncheon will follow the service in the Fireside Room. Burial will be in the Dexter Cemetery.

Charlie graduated from Dexfield High School in 1967 and went to Iowa State University for several years.

Growing up, he was active in 4-H showing cattle. He painted grain elevators and signs around Iowa and on the East Coast.

He started working for Central Harvestore in 1971. He helped build the blue silos then became a service man, and he was promoted to service manager.

Charlie married Cathy Mapes on June 28, 1975, and they lived in Perry with their cats.

In 1987 Charlie went to work for the U.S. Postal Service Bulk Mail Center in Urbandale and retired in 2005.

Charlie and Cathy started square dancing in 1982. They traveled in and out of the state, dancing and making friends. In later years, Charlie enjoyed playing cards with many friends.

Charlie liked country music, vintage TV programs, target shooting with family and friends and caring for his lawn and property.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy; his brother, Rod (Susan) Clark; nephew, Clarence (Mandy) Uebler, and their son, R. J., and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be left to the Perry Food Pantry or the Raccoon River Pet Rescue.
