Alice, 5, owner of Alice's Lemonade in Perry, offers two lines of lemonade, regular and strawberry.

After a hot hour spent browsing the fireworks tents, liberty-loving consumers are free to slake themselves with lemonade from Alice’s Lemonade, which has cornered the market with a corner market.

The trader’s name is Alice, and she is 5 years old. Child-safety concerns prevent too close an identification of Alice or the location where she sells, but the good-hearted will find her in residential Perry between the yard sales and the lawnmowers.

Alice’s mother said sales have been brisk this weekend after a lull on Father’s Day. Local dog walkers and bike riders are regular customers, she said.

Regular lemonade and strawberry lemonade are Alice’s two product lines, and each fetches 25 cents for a cupful.

  1. This is how you get a kid to get interested in work. If your kids want to do something like this, make sure to support them. It gets them an idea of how much effort is needed to do a job (building a stand, making the drinks and hanging out even when it’s slow, waiting for the next customer), and it will instill in them the value of a dollar earned.
