The latest mural by muralist Shawn Palek of Slater was dedicated Thursday at the trailhead of the Raccoon River Valley Trail in downtown Perry.
A responsive crowd attended the ceremony and admired the mural, which reads, “Welcome to Perry, Iowa. Perry – Your journey starts here. Welcome to Perry.” The work features many images of the city’s identity.
Palek has been a busy muralist in Perry in recent years. He completed work on the patriotic mural in the Josh Davis Plaza in 2020, and he painted two Perry artworks in 2019: the Perry Perk coffeehouse mural and the mural facing the old Montgomery Ward vacant lot at Third and Willis.
