ADEL — The first time the ADM and Perry girls soccer teams met this season, the Tigers tore up Dewey Field for a 10-0 win that ended early in the second half.

If the eighth-rated Tigers had any thoughts of a repeat, they were given a rude awakening Wednesday, as the Jayettes played at the top of their game, only to fall short by a 2-1 final.

ADM (16-2) scored in the 31st minute to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. One of the more talented teams in 2A, the Tigers appeared to have put the game with a second goal six minutes into the second half.

Delaney Barton and Ashlyn Watt had scored for the hosts, and goalie Delaney Bertman — who did not face a single shot on goal in the first meeting — appeared set for another quiet night.

Perry’s Natalie Martinez had the only two shots the guests managed Wednesday, but her rip in the 65th minute brought the Jayettes (10-6) within a strike of tying the game.

Unfortunately for Perry the ADM defense was simply too overwhelming, and the hosts held on to advance to Monday’s Region 3 Final, where they will host No. 14 DC-G. The Tigers beat the Fillies, 5-0, in Grimes earlier this season.

Martinez finishes her junior year with 29 goals, giving her 69 scores in 39 career games.

Selena Garcia had her best outing of the year between the pipes, stopping 12 of the 14 ADM shots on goal.
