Ten-year old Janelly (left) and seven-year old Sherlin Sanchez drew plenty of compliments for their original, homemade costumes.

Downtown Perry was swamped with several hundred costumed treat seekers and their escorts Monday despite weather perhaps more akin to Thanksgiving than Halloween.

Sponsored by the Perry Chamber of Commerce, the event had businesses and others along three blocks of downtown Perry welcoming Trick or Treaters for candy and small gifts.

Costumes ranged from superheroes to figures from children’s literature and folklore, with a wide range of original ideas and homemade get-ups sprinkled in.

The celebration of Halloween (Hallowe’en for the old-school set) has become more of a family affair in recent years, and many moms and dads came costumed as well, often in theme with their youngsters. The stroller crews were, very often, outfitted, too, generating plenty of ‘ahhhs’ from those they encountered.
