The Crossroads Church in Perry’s second annual Trail Fellowship Event rolled out of Caboose Park in downtown Perry at 7 a.m. Saturday, facing clear skies and cool temperatures.
Pastor Rick Gates led the four-man team in prayer before the ride, giving thanks for their health and asking for strength in battling evil.
“Pastor Rick Gates and two other Crossroads members, Paul Clark and Clint Nelson, have committed to riding the entire 73-mile loop in a spirit of exercise, fellowship and encouragement for the entire Crossroads family,” said Amanda Clark, spokesperson for Crossroads Church.
Church member Garrett Thompson of Perry made the fourth member of the fellowship team.
Special meetings and cheering at various trail heads are expected, Clark said, and a Church Family Picnic is planned in Redfield from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Area children are also invited to join the ride at Herndon at 3:30 p.m. for a kind of bicycling children’s crusade, Clark said.
“Pastor Rick has promised to slow down!” she said.
