Aug. 18, 2023

  • Zachary Sanderson of New Virginia was traveling westbound on U.S. Interstate 80 near the 104 mile marker when he swerved to avoid a vehicle and struck guide wire posts and knocked them down. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $4,000. Sanderson was issued a citation for failure to provide proof of financial liability.

Aug. 19, 2023

  • Rashawn Melvin, 23, of 7305 Oliver Smith Dr., Urbandale, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of probation violation.
  • Maronde Swedi, 25, of 1444 Fourth St., Des Moines, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving while suspended.
  • Michael Whiddon, 52, of 4465 N.E. 26th St., Des Moines, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving while suspended.
  • Grabiel Garcia, 42, of 4115 S. 77th St., Omaha, Nebraska, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving while suspended.
  • Gustav Schories of Stuart was traveling on U.S. Interstate 80 near the 104 mile marker when his vehicle left the roadway, entered the ditch and overturned. No injuries were reported. Damage to Schories’ vehicle was estimated at $15,000. Damage to DOT cable barriers was estimated at $1,000.
  • Cory Dowdell of Creston was traveling on U.S. Interstate 80 near the 116 mile marker when his vehicle struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $2,500.

Aug. 20, 2023

  • Ramon Melara-Cerna, 32, of 2020 Evelyn St., Perry, was arrested for OWI, child endangerment, dominion/control of a firearm by a felon and possession or carrying of dangerous weapons while intoxicated.
  • Shaun Strifler, 52, of 713 Marshall St., Dexter, was arrested for public intoxication.

Aug. 21, 2023

  • Burdette Kelsey III, 33, of 1334 32nd St., Des Moines, was arrested on a warrant for probation violation.
