Eight Panthers top podium as team dominates invitational

TREYNOR — Panorama had eight wrestlers win their weight class as the Panthers dominated the Treynor Invitational Saturday.

Panorama easily claimed the team crown by amassing 266.5 points, as two Panthers placed second, two others third and one sixth. The team left the 113 and 126 pound divisions open, and had double entries at 152, 160 and 170.

Glenwood was second with 177 points, with Treynor third at 145, CR-B/G-R fourth at 111 and Griswold fifth at 90 to top the 14-team field.

Third-ranked senior Gunnar Grunsted provided the chief of many highlights for the Panthers by winning his 170-pound division with four pins. Along the way the standout picked up his 100th career victory.

Danny Nordquist finished atop the 132-pound group after recording a tech fall and a decision, with Wyatt Appleseth winning at 138 with a pin and a major decision. Emry Colby used three pins to claim the 145 bracket while Noah Kirtley won at 152 with two pinfalls and a major decision.

Trevor Carey scored three wins by fall to dominate at 182, with eight-rated Dalton Holmes claiming honors at 195 with two pins and a decision.

The other first place finish came at 106, where Logan Christe finished 1-1 with a decision but won the three-man bracket on criteria.

Kaleb Stogdill was the runner-up at 160 and Dan Jensen the 285-pound runner-up, with Wyatt Clark (120) and Brady Howard (220) both placing third while Garret Fox was sixth at 170.

Chris Allison finished 1-2 at 160 with a victory by pin but was unable to place, with Fynn Bloek finishing 0-2 at 152 in his inaugural prep match.

Panorama will host Van Meter and West Central Valley tonight, then compete Friday in the Central Decatur Invitational, which begins at 3:30 p.m.
