Fillies bump Jayette volleyball from postseason

GRIMES, IOWA — A three-game sweep Tuesday by host DC-G brought an end to the volleyball season for Perry in Class 4A Region 2 play.

The Fillies (16-21) claimed the victory on scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-7. The loss sent the Jayettes home with an overall record of 11-25, and eight-victory improvement over last season.

Taylor Atwell had eight assists for Perry, with Valeria Contreras, Peyton Tunink and Addison Huntington each having one.

Tunink led the team with three assists, with Atwell, Ashley Cerna and Jayna Kenney recording two apiece and Callie Steva one.

Tunink also had a team-high in digs with 10. Atwell and Cerna had seven apiece and Huntington six, with Contreras tallying four, Kathryn West three and Kenney and Steva two each.

Perry served well, converting on 35-of-38 (92 percent) chances with one ace serve, which came from West.

Steva was 9-of-9 and Atwell 8-of-8, with Tunink and West both 6-of-6 while Kenney was 4-of-5 and Cerna 2-of-4.

The match was the final prep contest for Kimberly Castillo, Contreras, Kenney and Tunink. The Jayettes are coached by John Fulton.
