The Rev. Chris Reising prepares to announce the winners of the St. Patrick's Parish raffle Friday at the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry Friday. At rear is Matt Paris, financial officer for St. Patrick's and St. Anthony's parish in Des Moines.

The Perry Knights of Columbus held their last fish fry of the season Friday and in terms of those served, the nets were filled to bursting.

A capacity crowd filled the St. Patrick’s Catholic School gym, enjoying fried and baked fish, shrimp, fries, grilled cheese sandwiches and cole slaw. Fish tacos were also available, as were a wide variety of desserts and drinks.

A highlight of the evening came just before 7 p.m. when the Rev. Chris Reising asked the youngsters present to stand before the crowd and draw names from a tumbler, with those chosen winning cash prizes as part of a recent parish fundraiser.

Nearly $30,000 worth of tickets were sold, with 12 winners claiming prizes totaling $10,000 and ranging in size from $2,500 to $500. After expenses, the parish raised in excess of $17,000. Reising thanked participants for their generosity.

A capacity crowd chowed down at the final Lenten Fish Fry Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic School gym.
After nearly an hour of serving, the line was still, literally, “all the way to the door.”
