The first annual Perry Youth Basketball Tournament began Saturday, with six towns bringing some 65 players to the hardwoods in the Perry High School and Perry Middle School gyms.
Saturday’s competitors were drawn from third and fifth grade boys in Ankeny, Dallas Center-Grimes, Johnston, Perry, Roland-Story and Waukee. A few second graders also made the cut.
Casey Finn of Perry, one of the tournament’s organizers, said he was glad to see lots of Perry kids participating and strengthening the program. He said next year’s tournament would include girls basketball.
Action continues Sunday starting at 8 a.m., when fourth graders and sixth graders squaring off.
