First inning run enough as Jaguars claw win from Hawks

W-G left fielder Kendra Husmann runs in for a catch while center fielder Bree Lesch moves to back up the play during their playoff game with South Hamilton last July.

WOODWARD — Southeast Valley freshman Mackenzie Crompton may have only struck out only one Wooward-Granger batter Thursday, but she also allowed only one hit, and that was enough for the Jaguars to claim a 1-0 non-conference win.

A hit and costly error that likely would have created a double-play allowed the guests to score in the top of the first, and that would be it, as neither team could put their respective offenses into gear.

Riley Jamison did her part in the ring for the hosts. She yielded only the one unearned run on five hits and a walk while striking out two in seven innings.

Miranda Aunspach had the lone base hit for the hosts.

W-G will host Bondurant-Farrar tonight before making their inaugural appearance in the Charles City Classic Saturday. The Hawks face Iowa Falls-Alden at 2:30 p.m. and St. Ansgar at 4 p.m.
