The First Presbyterian Church in Perry received a new roof this week.

Just in time for Friday’s rain and Sunday’s snow, the First Presbyterian Church in Perry was blessed this week when workers finished installing a new roof on the building.

“We’ve got a nice steel roof now that should last forever,” said David Weiser of rural Perry, longtime church overseer. He said the roof was last replaced about 25 years ago.

“They’re covering all the fascia, too,” said the Rev. Lynne Hanna, First Presbyterian Church pastor, “and it’s kind of exciting.”

Weiser said a roofing company from Ames bid on the work and completed the job this week.

“We weren’t able to find anybody locally that was able to do it,” Weiser said. “We tried to get some bids from locals, but they were busy in the field. We would have liked to stay local, but we needed to get it done, too, and couldn’t wait forever.”

Forever is how long the people can wait for their next new roof, while the new one shines in the sunlight like a city on a hill.

“You can see it from quite a distance,” Weiser said. “It’s real bright and shiny right now.”
